"Canvasses of Light” Plein Air Art Show

Artist: Teri Gortmaker

This week, A Spice of Life had the unique opportunity to create an innovative farm-to-table menu while also benefiting the local artist community. On Saturday the 17th, the Lyons Farmette hosted the Plein Air Art Show to benefit the Boulder County Arts Alliance and the Lyons Arts and Humanities Council. Over forty local artists showcased rural scenes of Colorado summer, and guests were treated to unique hors d’oeuvres from A Spice of Life.

Spice’s Chef de Cuisine Pieter Dijkstra and co-owner Dan Bruckner visited the Farmette on Wednesday to explore and garner inspiration for the event’s menu.  The menu included a trio of crostini featuring ingredients like garlic braised rainbow chard, grilled eggplant and marjoram, and baby tomato and basil with housemade ricotta.  Other items that the artists and guests enjoyed were beet Carpaccio and apples wrapped with nasturtium leaf, onion and thyme frittata with crème fraiche and stuffed cherry tomatoes with mustard green pesto and garlic breadcrumbs.

The creative, farm fresh food was a perfect complement to the Plein Air art and the scenery of the Farmette, and A Spice of Life was happy to be a part of an event that featured so many local local artists and community members.
